Seventeen Chosen to Join Dubak U’s Industrial Electrical Trade Apprenticeship Program

12 join third class in Chicago area and five become inaugural class in Indianapolis

LA GRANGE, IL (July 6, 2021) – Seventeen people have been chosen to participate in Dubak U’s Apprenticeship Program for industrial electrical trade education and certification; 12 will join the third apprenticeship class in La Grange, IL, and for the first time, five will join the apprenticeship program as it debuts in Indianapolis. The participants in the four-year apprenticeship program will receive paid, on-the-job industrial electrical experience in addition to classes, with the opportunity to test at the end of the program for nationally recognized Journeyman Industrial Electrician Credentials.

After a review of applications and interviews, candidates were chosen by a panel of craft instructors, field supervisors, and operations management from Dubak Electrical Group.

Program participants will receive paid, on-the-job industrial electrical experience working 40 hours a week on various job sites as well as attend classes three nights every other week, tuition-free, as they work toward industrial electrician certification. The new cohort is split into two groups that will take Core classes, beginning the weeks of July 5 and August 9, in La Grange. Indianapolis apprentices will attend classes in 2021 via Zoom for Year One instruction but will participate in hands-on training at the Indianapolis branch with certified instructors and performance evaluators after attending Core Bootcamp at the Chicago branch with the local Chicago-area apprentices. Core Bootcamp consists of four paid 40- hour weeks where apprentices are introduced to the electrical trade and the construction industry. Apprentices will receive introductory training on pipe bending, device wiring, safety, and electrical craft-related tools and material to prepare them for fieldwork.

Dubak U, a craft university operated by Dubak Electrical Group. is both an NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor (ATS) and an Accredited Assessment Center (AAC). As an industrial electrical contractor, Dubak Electrical Group has tailored the education program to focus on the skills needed to become an Industrial Electrical Journeyman and covers the most challenging material in the electrical field. The apprenticeship program started 2 years ago and currently has seven Level 2 and 11 Level 3 apprentices.

“We are impressed with the level of candidates who were seeking admission to the program this year and looking forward to having them with us while they work to become certified electrical journeymen,” said Nick Dubak, Chief Operating Officer of Dubak Electrical Group. “We are proud of the apprenticeship program at Dubak U, which offers comprehensive training and experience and a pathway for success.”

The four-year program offers 576 hours of classroom and hands-on training, with a total of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training, which meets the requirements for a nationally recognized apprenticeship program. The Dubak U AAC has both a knowledge verification (written) and a performance verification (hands-on) that those completing the program may be eligible to attempt. Only those that successful complete a knowledge verification or a performance verification are considered a journeyman. Passing one or the other makes them an NCCER Verified Industrial Electrician. Those successfully completing both the performance verification and the knowledge verification are considered NCCER Certified Industrial Electricians, the gold standard credential from NCCER. Dubak U is dedicated to providing apprentices with the knowledge and skill to become top level journeyman in the electrical field.

The apprenticeship program and selection process has created almost 50 full-time employees as electrical apprentices, HVAC techs, warehouse personnel, and electrical helpers. The average age of those entering the program is 23-25 years old. The program can be the start of a 40-year career in the electrical trade.
